John R. Rice Quotes of the Week

What chance has any sinner before God without mercy? It is written that "the soul that sinneth, it shall die" Ezek. 18:4), and "the wages of sin is death" (Rom. 6:23). So every man, woman and child who comes to this last great judgment of the unsaved dead, to be judged according to his works, will meet only condemnation. This judgment is not to find out whether or not men are sinners. It is only the public and official confirmation of their guilt so that every person in Heaven and Hell will admit the justice of God. Reader, if you come to be judged before the great white throne, then eternal judgment is your portion and there is no escape! - John R. Rice

The book of life contains not the names of good people, but the names of bad people who have been forgiven. The book of life does not contain the names of those who have earned Heaven, but the names of those deserving Hell who have been freely pardoned and whose sins are under the blood of Christ! - John R. Rice

However men feel about death, God's Word deals honestly about it. The Bible has more to say about death than nearly anything else. In the beautiful Garden of Eden where sin had never entered nor death had ever come, the Lord warned Adam about the forbidden fruit and said, "In the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely DIE" (Gen. 2:17). But Adam and Eve did eat, and they died. They died spiritually that moment and the curse of sin and death passed upon them, and their bodies began the process of decay and death that instant. - John R. Rice

After death comes judgment! Sinner, that means that after death, there is no time to repent. After death there is no second chance. After death there is no repentance. After death there is no being born again, no being saved. After death comes only judgment and no mercy. This side of death there is mercy and grace. The other side of death, for a sinner, there is only judgment and damnation. - John R. Rice

God, who loves, when scorned, also brings judgment. That is inevitable. - John R. Rice

So the Lord Jesus weeping over Jerusalem, stands for the Saviour weeping over America. America, filled with pornographic literature; America with its riots and bombs and hippies and communists and socialists and lawbreakers and those who excuse law-breaking and defend it with no patriotism and no respect for dads and mothers, no respect for policemen, no respect for the judges and courts - what will God do with America? Eventually He will do with America what He did with Israel. Eventually it will be ruin and wars and famine and trouble, if God deals with us who turn down the Saviour in America, as He dealt with others. - John R. Rice

Listen, the dear Lord wants you. You say, "Brother Rice, I am not ready." Then you had better get ready. Somebody says, "Well, there are hypocrites in the church." Yes, and there are hypocrites at ball games and hypocrites in the supermarkets and hypocrites in the business offices, and hypocrites at the banks. That doesn't keep you from going on doing business with them. Why cut off your nose to spite your face? Are you going to Hell because of somebody you don't like? That is a dishonest and insincere kind of excuse. - John R. Rice
