Pastor Rick Jackson
Well the Super-bowl is tonight. Many millions will be tuned
in while others could care less. There are a certain group of men however who
are vitally interested in the game and that's the players. Can you imagine any
of them being too busy to go today? Not only will every player try his hardest
to be there but every one of them wants to be in the game! Barring illness or
some other situation which they would be powerless over every guy wants in the
game. Every man will be prepared.
Christians have something way more important than the super
bowl and we all ought be prepared and ready to get involved.
I. BE PART OF THE
TEAM [v. 10a] Be sure you're saved!
2 Corinthians 13:5
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye
not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
II. BE CONDITIONED [v.
10, 3:16]
III. KNOW THE OPPOSING TEAM [v. 11-12]
"the evil genius" -know your enemy!
IV. BE READY FOR
ACTION [v. 13]
1 Cor. 15:58 Therefore,
my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work
of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
V. KNOW THE PLAYBOOK
[v. 14a] Be familiar with the Bible.
2 Tm. 3:16-17 All
scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for
reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God
may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
VI. MAKE SURE YOU
HAVE YOUR PADS ON [v. 14b]
Phil. 3:9 And be found
in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which
is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
1 John 3:7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that
doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
VII. WEAR YOUR CLEATS
[v. 15]
1 Co. 3:11 For other
foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
VIII. PROTECT THE
BALL [v. 16] Rom. 10:17 Faith cometh
by hearing...
1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and
be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the
hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
IX. WEAR YOUR HELMET
[v. 17a] -Col. 2:8
X. PROPERLY EXECUTE
THE OFFENSIVE PLAYS [v. 17b]
Heb. 4:12 For the word
of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing
even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow,
and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
XI. STAY IN CONTACT
WITH THE COACHES [v. 18a]
XII. HELP YOUR
TEAM-MATES [v. 18b-19]
Heb. 10:24-25 And let
us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking
the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting
one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
