I. WHEREFORE- JESUS IS BETTER THAN EVEN MOSES [v. 1-6]

 

1. Jesus was “Sent” Like Moses [v. 1-2]

 

2. Jesus is “Higher” than Moses [v. 3-4]

 

3. Jesus is “Different” than Moses [v. 5-6]

 

II. WHEREFORE- IT IS BEST TO TRUST AND OBEY [v. 7-9]

 

1. The Exhortation From God [v. 7, 4:7, Ps. 95:8]

 

2. The Example of their Ancestors [v. 8-9]

 

3. The Exact One they were Provoking [v. 8-9]

 

III. WHEREFORE- THE CONSEQUENCES ARE DIRE [v. 10-19]

 

1. The Loss of “Rest” [v. 10-11]

 

2. The Steadfastness of Faith [v. 12-15]

 

3. The Sin of Unbelief [v. 16-19]

Scripture presents a fivefold rest: (1) creation rest, (2) entrance into Canaan, (3) the rest of salvation,* (4) the rest of consecration,** and (5) heaven.
