Deuteronomy 7:1-2 "When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee . . . seven nations greater and mightier than thou; And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them."
Have you ever met a loser? I mean a real-life, sure-enough, all-American, A-1 grade LOSER? Maybe you feel like you are the loser. You may be winning in the sight of people, but you have this secret, gnawing fear that it's all a façade. Simply put, you think you are not a winner when it comes to the Christian life and serving God.
I can empathize with the kids' cartoon that says, "I know I'm somebody 'cause God don't make no junk." I believe that is true, but I am not "somebody" because I am great. I am somebody because God is gracious.
The book of Deuteronomy is full of God giving and Israel possessing. If God is giving it, we ought to have it. Someone wisely said, "Seek no more than God gives, but settle for no less." Moses spoke about the land that God gave and Israel was to possess as if it were a done deal! His instruction to them was clear: When God gives victory, do not make a place for defeat."
Can I remind you of something this morning? God designed you for victory. There is no reason you cannot be everything that God made you and intended you to be. Do you honestly think that God made you for defeat?
I do not mean that you have a perfect body or perfect mind on this earth, but I do mean that your heart should be willing to accomplish all that God intends for you. Since God intends victory, any defeat is an "inside job."
God loves you because He is good, not because you are. You have God with you today. Don't accept defeat because He created you for victory. Don't sabotage victory by harboring in your heart that which God will not bless. I don't know what your intentions are for the day, but God's intention is clear: He wants to give you victory on the path of His choosing. Accept no less!
