2 SAMUEL 3

Absalom, Zaccheus & Jesus.  A prince, a publican and a Prophet-Priest-King. A prince who ended up being a prisoner, a publican who became a philanthropist and the Prophet-Priest-King who became our propitiation.

I. THE REASON (why might we climb a tree? Fun, fruit, protection, etc.)

1. “Accidently” as a result of Sin [2 Sam. 3:3, 13:1, 18:5-9]

2. “Secretly” as a result of Curiosity [Lk. 19:1-4]

3. “Willingly” as a result of Love [Jn. 10:15-17, 12:27, 15:13]

II. THE RESULT

1.  Death [2 Sam. 18:10-15]

2. Life [Lk. 19:5-6]

3.  Redemption [Gal. 3:13]

III. THE REACTION

1. Delight & Despair [2 Sam. 18:16-33]

2. Murmuring & Merriment [Lk. 19:7-10]

3. Salvation or Condemnation [Jn. 3:14-21, Rm. 10:9-14]
