Reflecting God

Bill Rice Ranch - First Light Devotionals

II Chronicles 9:8 "Blessed be the LORD thy God, which delighted in thee to set thee on his throne, to be king for the LORD thy God. . . ."

Reflecting God

Have you ever been on the receiving end of thorough interview? Perhaps like a Father-in-law-to-be interview? Way back when Sena and I were dating, I had such an interview with my (now) father-in-law. He came on a reconnaissance mission to find out everything there was to know about Wil Rice; I don't know what information his final intelligence report contained, but I do know that I married his daughter!

I think of such an interview when reading about King Solomon's interview with the queen of Sheba. After Solomon "told her all her questions" and she saw the grandeur of Solomon's kingdom, the queen of Sheba concluded, "Blessed be the LORD thy God, which delighted in thee to set thee on his throne, to be king for the LORD thy God. . . ." I don't know what the queen of Sheba knew about God before her visit, but Solomon certainly reflected God well to her!

This passage about Solomon reminds us that what we have belongs to God. Solomon was sitting on God's throne, using God's wisdom to rule God's people. You may not have great wealth or wisdom like Solomon, but what you do have completely and entirely belongs to God. When you lose this perspective, you lose the reason for the stewardship that you have!

What we have been given should also be viewed as a token of God's delight, not His drudgery. The queen of Sheba said, "Blessed be the LORD thy God, which delighted in thee. . . ." Don't be discouraged about the stewardship God has delighted to give you. I know some people that would feel like God was judging them if they worked with junior-aged boys and girls at camp! What God has entrusted to you is not a product of His drudgery or scorn; He has delighted to give you what you have just as He did for Solomon!

If what we have belongs to God and is a token of His delight, then we ought do justice to what He has entrusted to us. Solomon's stewardship included a responsibility to "do judgment and justice." We, too, should do right by what God has delighted to place in our care. Don't squander what God has put in your hand!

You reflect on God, either positively or negatively, by the way you use His stewardship. Solomon certainly reflected God well to the queen of Sheba. How will you reflect on God today?
