LAMENTATIONS 4:17
Pastor Rick Jackson
I. THE SINFUL EYES
1. The Hypocritical Eye [Lk. 6:41-42]
And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye.
2. The Arrogant Eye [Rm. 3:18]There is no fear of God before their eyes.
3. The Adulterous Eye [II Pet. 2:14]
Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:
II. THE WEEPING EYES
1. Tears of the Unrepentant [Lamentations 1:15-17]
2. Tears of the Affected Heart [Lamentations 2:11, 3:48-51]
3. Tears of the Repentant Heart [Lamentations 5:17-22, Luke 18:13]
And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
2 Corinthians 7:10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
III. THE OPEN EYES
1. The Eyes of Understanding [Mt. 13:15-16, 17:18, Acts 26:18, Eph. 1:18]
2. The Eyes of Surrender [Jn. 17:1]
These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
3. The Eyes of the Harvest [Jn. 4:35]
Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
