REVELATION 1
Pastor Rick Jackson
Have you ever found yourself in a place NOT of your own choosing? [Prison=Joseph, John the Baptist, Paul, Peter, Jeremiah, John Bunyan, Lester Roloff, etc. / Sorrow=Job / Mission field=Jonah / Exile=John]
Respond properly and while it may not be the place of your choosing it may be the place of God's great blessing! For John, that place was Patmos.
I. WHAT JOHN SAID [v. 9-10a]
1. I am your Brother / you are family [v. 9]
Proverbs 17:17 A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
2. I am your Companion in Tribulation / You are not alone [v. 9]
1 Peter 5:9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
3. I am your Example [v. 10a] / You are without excuse
when his baby died what did David do? when he lost everything-what did Job do? When he was sold as a slave and thrown in prison what did Joseph do? when he was taken captive to Babylon what did Daniel do? what are you doing?
II. WHAT JOHN HEARD [v. 10b-11]
1. The Great Voice [v. 10b] burning bush/Saul, Saul/Follow me/Go Ye
1 Kings 19:9-12 And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah? And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away. And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake:And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
2. of The Great God [v. 11]
Isaiah 41:4 Who hath wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I the LORD, the first, and with the last; I am he.
Isaiah 44:6 Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.
3. calling me to Do a Great Work [v. 11]
Little is much when God is in it... anyone here know Daisy Hawes? Edward Kimball? Betty R. Cabbage?
III. WHAT JOHN SAW [v. 12-16]
1. One Familiar yet Unfamiliar [v. 12-15]
2. One Over 7 Real Yet Representative Churches [v. 12-13, 16, 20]
3. One Whose Voice You Can See Yet His Light You Cannot (Fully) [v. 12, 16, Mt. 17:1ff]
Hebrews 4:12-13 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
