JUST PRAY

James 4:1-2

I. WHAT PRAYER IS NOT!

1. Prayer is Not Thanksgiving [Phil. 4:6, Col. 4:2]

2. Prayer is Not Confession [Dan. 9:4]

3. Prayer is Not Humiliation [II Chr. 7:14]

These things and others like praise, meditation, adoration, etc. are good things and often go well with prayer but technically they are Not prayer!

II. WHAT PRAYER IS!

1. Prayer is Asking! [Mt. 7:7-8, 11; 21:22]

2. The Answer to Prayer is Receiving [Lk. 11:13, Jn. 14:14, 16:24; Jm. 4:2; I Jn. 3:22]

3. Bible Prayers Were Asking [Mk. 10:47-51, Lk. 18:10-14]

III. JUST PRAY!

1. God commands it! [Lk. 18:1, I Th. 5:17]

2. Pray about everything! [Eph. 6:18-19, Phil. 4:6]

3. Pray for everybody [Mt. 26:41, Rm. 10:1, I Tm. 2:1]

I know my views on prayer were highly influenced by Dr. John R. Rice to whom (earthly speaking) I owe much of my Christian growth.
