A: Biblical inerrancy has become the dominant hallmark of fundamentalism because it is foundational to the rest of the fundamentals. Inerrancy encompasses the crucial doctrines of Christ's Virgin Birth, substitutionary death on the Cross, and bodily resurrection because without a reliable testimony to these events, we could not be certain of their historicity. After all, the Bible is where these things are recorded. Scientific investigation cannot establish whether or not Jesus was born of a virgin, rose from the dead, or that His death on the Cross satisfied God's justice. Only special revelation from the Creator can reveal these things. This is what the Bible claims to be. If it is inerrant, then these other events are sure. Sweet-Smelling Sacrifice

Sweet-Smelling Sacrifice May 18, 2012   "I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God." (Philippians 4:18)   The reference in this text goes back to the "sweet savour" that God smelled when Noah offered his initial sacrifice after disembarking from the year-long Flood. That offering triggered a promise from God that He would never again curse the earth or destroy every living thing with water, as the Flood had done. Furthermore, the Lord promised to maintain the seasons and functions of the earth until the end (Genesis 8:20-21).   Later, Moses would bring the Lord's instructions for those laws of Israel that would keep the nation separate from the rest of the world and constantly remind them of the very personal relationship that the Creator of all things was establishing with them. Some of the sacrifices would be an "offering by fire unto the Lord, a burnt offering, or a sacrifice in performing a vow, or in a freewill offering, or in your solemn feasts, to make a sweet savour unto the Lord" (Numbers 15:3).   It is interesting to note that the twice-born are "unto God a sweet savour of Christ" (2 Corinthians 2:15). Our very existence as His children smells good to our Heavenly Father! We are also compared to living stones that are being built into a spiritual house that is "to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ" (1 Peter 2:5). Our bodies are to be "living sacrifices" (Romans 12:1) that render the "sacrifice of praise" (Hebrews 13:15), while God Himself is making us "perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ" (Hebrews 13:21). Never Count God Out

 

 

Ezekiel 35:10  "Because thou hast said, These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess it; whereas the LORD was there:"   Never Count God Out   What is the most "disrespected" you have felt in the past five weeks?  Generally, being disrespected happens with a whisper, not a yell.  For example, have you ever been excluded from a group conversation?  You try to inject your ideas, but you are quietly dismissed or ignored.  You haven't been yelled down; you have been whispered out.  So it often is with us and God.   In Ezekiel 35, the nation of Edom dismissed God.  "These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess it; whereas [although] the LORD was there."  They just dismissed God entirely out of the equation!  The Lord responds swiftly and heavily to this "disrespect."   You may not boastfully sweep God out of the conversation like the Edomites, but you can just as surely dismiss Him by being worried and hurried.  Either option is bad news, but I find myself too often falling in the second category.  Even though you want to serve God and do right, you can dismiss God out of the equation because of problems, stress, expectations, and difficulties.  Don't count God out!   It's easier said than done, but don't worry.  When you worry, you count God out.  Any day is a secure day if you will look for God in it.  When you look back at today, how much of God will you see in it?  Our tendency is to dismiss God out of the day and to count Him out.  Whatever you do, never count God out!       Prayer Requests: 1. The Builder of the House

The Builder of the House May 17, 2012 "He who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house. For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God." (Hebrews 3:3-4) Perhaps the single greatest category of evidence for supernatural creation is in the nature of the creation itself, which everywhere shows such intricate design that it could not have come about by random chance. Consider the earth: Its size, mass, distance from the sun and moon, rotational wobble, chemical makeup, etc., are critical within very narrow limits. Any significant deviation in any of these, or other characteristics, would make life impossible. But inorganic molecules, planets, and galaxies are simpler by several orders of magnitude than even the tiniest living organism. The marvelous genetic code which regulates life, growth, and reproduction, is so unthinkably complex, so obviously designed, that it would take a "willingly . . . ignorant" (2 Peter 3:5) mind to conclude a naturalistic origin for it. Life at every stage and at every level of investigation shows symmetry in its order, purpose in its function, and interdependence between its parts; all of these are clear marks of design by an intelligent designer. The evidence speaks so eloquently that even "the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse" (Romans 1:20) if they choose not to believe, and therefore to merit and face His wrath (v. 18). "All things were created by him, and for him" (Colossians 1:16). Mankind can take no pride in it nor rebellious solace in the idea of naturalistic origin, for "thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created" Revelation 4:11). A: Psalm 115:16 says, "The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord's; but the earth He has given to the children of men." But does that mean mankind's biblical dominion is limited to the earth? The context reveals that the passage has nothing to do with space exploration, and nowhere else in Scripture is the concept spoken of in a negative light. Remember that the Psalms are poetic literature, and sometimes they conceptually portray people or angels in heaven worshipping God. The essence of the passage is that heaven is where the throne of God is, and He alone controls heaven and the rest of the universe. Even if the Hebrew word is extended to include the atmospheric and interstellar heavens (as it often does), this still does not mean that God is prohibiting men from flying in airplanes or rockets, but rather that He is in control of these places as well as earth. The Blame Game

 

Ezekiel 18:2  "What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge?" The Blame Game There is no doubt that it is human nature to be the first to take the credit and the last to take the blame!  Any of us want the praise for a job well done, but none of us want the responsibility before it happens.  Rare is the person that will take responsibility; many will lay the blame for some failure or some sin at the feet of other people, including those closest to them.  Blaming your parents for your own sins has almost become a common strategy of defendants in the American judicial system.  While it is common today, it is not unique to our day.  The blame game has been around about as long as people have! People in Ezekiel's day were so eager to blame somebody else that they blamed their parents.  Truthfully, they were blaming God for not being fair.  They were not willing to assume responsibility for their own sin; they were willing to assume that God's judgment on them was because of their fathers.  They were desperately in need and under God's judgment but unwilling to recognize their need.  You can't help a person who doesn't see his need! The children of Israel had a proverb in that day that said, "The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge."  In other words, the children were suffering the bitterness of life as a result of decisions the fathers had made.  What was God's answer to all of this?  "As I live, saith the Lord GOD, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel."  He doesn't take the shifting of blame lightly! The fact of the matter is, each of us is accountable to God.  While there is no doubt that your parents influenced you, that is never an excuse for you to do wrong.  Your relationship to God is determined by your choices, not your heredity.  Until you come to God and realize that you have a responsibility in choices today, regardless of the influences yesterday, you cannot see a better day.  Don't take your turn in the blame game!
