Stewardship Among the Churches   August 20, 2010     "He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches." (Revelation 2:29)     In Revelation, the Lord Jesus dictated seven poignant letters to seven different churchs. Two letters contain praise and commendation. Two give grave warnings. Three are mixed.     Smyrna (Revelation 2:8-11) was faithful in the midst of terrible persecution and was promised a "crown of life" for their steadfast testimony. Philadelphia (Revelation 3:7-13) was commended because of its attention to the Word that was given as an "open door." These served with favor and were given a promise for victory. Ephesus (Revelation 2:1-7) was doctrinally sound but had a love that had grown cold and was in danger of loosing the "lamp stand"--the very church relationship that kept them tied to service in the kingdom. Laodicea (Revelation 3:14-22) was oblivious to their danger of expulsion. They were neither "cold nor hot " (neutral) and had assumed that being successful and well thought of by the world was the goal of the church.     The opposites reflect the reaction among today's evangelicals to the foundational issues of biblical creationism and the pervasive impact of the approach to biblical inerrancy. Some, like Symrna, stand firm in spite of denominational disdain, social ostracism, or limited resources. Larger "Philadelphian" churches boldly minister within their spheres of influence, heedless of the pressure to yield to the majority.     Sadly, many are like Ephesus and Ladodicea, so concerned over doctrinal technicalites that they have lost their love for the Word, the lost, and the kingdom. More are caught up in the neutrality of acceptance and are concerned with "the praise of men" (John 12:43) than "sound doctrine" (2 Timothy 4:3). Of all the resources available to us, God's Word is the most precious and requires proper stewardship. One day, we will give an account for how we used it. Type of tract to use

Tracts to use by Sumner Wemp

BE SURE
"Christ died for our sins and rose again" is ESSENTIAL if the tract is to be effective. I NEVER would give out a tract that does not have the gospel plainly in it.

Invitation
Personally, I want a tract that gives the person a chance to pray to receive the Lord Jesus in it. If they do not do it, you can be sure the devil will snatch away what was sown in their hearts, Matt 13:19.

Well done
We live in a sophisticated society and well done, on good paper, in color tracts are much better received and read.

Tracts on cults
You win people to Christ by a positive gospel message. I never carry tracts that deal with cults and their belief. I cannot remember when I talked to someone in the Jehovah Witnesses or other cults. Many of them will read a gospel tract when they would not read a tract against their cult or come to your church. They then have the gospel in their hands are and have heard it.

Tracts for everyone
Hundreds have asked about a tract for Policemen or Doctors or Firemen etc. Truthfully, how many of this specific group of people do you contact regularly? Hardly every. Find tracts that would fit everyone.

Get samples
"Mickey Mantle," "Amazing Grace." "America Under Attack." American Tract Society puts these out. Call 1-800-548-7228 or write American Tract Society, P.O. Box 462008, Garland, TX 75046 and ask for samples and prices.

Good News Publishers, 1300 Crescent Street, Wheaton, IL 60187 is a good tract company. "A moment Ago" is a very good tract to use. Write them for samples.

"God's Simple Plan of Salvation" is one of the all time great tracts. One half billion have been printed in over 100 languages. Written by Ford Porter, now in heaven, but still greatly used. Write Lifegate, P. O. Box 5, Monrovia, IN 46157, for samples and price.

Prayer:  Father, bless Your word as it goes out in tracts. Help Your people to plant seed through tracts for Your glory. In Jesus name. I LOVE YOU dear people ABC, sumner

THE JUST JUDGE

LUKE 18:1-8

Someomne might wrongly assume that the title is a mistake, that it should be “The Unjust Judge” but my friends, the title refers to the One telling the parable,

I. THE PARABLE [v. 1-5]

1. The Positive Purpose of the Parable [v. 1, 1 Thessalonians 5:17] Pray without ceasing.

2. The Negative Purpose of the Parable [v. 1, 2 Corinthians 4:1]

Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;
2 Corinthians 4:16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
Galatians 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
Ephesians 3:13 Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory.
2 Thessalonians 3:13 But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.

Stewardship Strength   August 17, 2010   "Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied." (1 Samuel 17:45)     Our Lord Jesus taught us to expect ongoing instability until He returned (Matthew 24:6). Sometimes, it seems, we must be reminded by circumstances that this world is not our home!     Psalm 2 is a rather important perspective for God's people to keep in mind. Physical circumstances often seem rather bleak, and the "bad guys" seem to have it their way much of the time (Psalm 73). But we are continually reminded that their apparent success should not trouble us (Psalm 37:1; Proverbs 3:31-34; etc.), for "he that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision" (Psalm 2:4).     "For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ" (2 Corinthians 10:3-5).     This verse encourages the ministry of the Institute for Creation Research. We see ourselves as fighting the "imaginations" and the "strong holds" of those who would dare to set themselves against the authority of Scripture and the evidence of the Creator and His creation. The Western world has embraced the anti-God and anti-gospel message of evolutionary naturalism as its religion. ICR wages spiritual warfare against that terrible lie. The battle is very specialized in our world today. God has brought dedicated "warriors" to ICR to engage the enemy, and we invite you to join us in that mission with your support and intercessory prayer. Logical Milk

Logical Milk August 16, 2010 "As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby." (1 Peter 2:2) This exhortation is directed to young Christians who have only recently trusted God's enduring Word, preached to them in the saving gospel of Christ. Because of this miracle of regeneration just experienced, a new Christian must now "lay aside the verb form here means to 'lay aside once and for all' all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies" (1 Peter 2:1) and partake--as babes--of the "milk of sincerity." The word for "sincere" means, literally, "without guile," so he/she must now build all future progress in his/her new life--not on guile, but on guilelessness! The phrase "of the word" is especially noteworthy. This is not the usual word for "word" (Greek, logos), but a closely related word (logikos) from which we get our words "logic" and "logical." It is used only one other time in the New Testament, where it is rendered "reasonable" in the classic passage dealing with "your reasonable service" (Romans 12:1). Thus Peter is talking about partaking of a spiritual milk which is both logical and without guile. This can be nothing else (as seen in the context) than the incorruptible, eternal, regenerating Word of God, and the living Word (Jesus Christ) revealed therein. Now the Lord Jesus is surely logical, for He is "the truth" (John 14:6). In this same chapter, Peter also notes that Christ was without guile (1 Peter 2:22). These attributes must be equally true of His written Word. The Scriptures are not full of secret meanings which only specially trained interpreters can fathom. They are sincere, meaning precisely what they say! Neither are they naive and unscientific, but fully logical and correct in everything they say. Therefore, they are genuine spiritual nourishment for babes in Christ and will certainly enable them to "grow thereby." SIN MAKES LOSERS OF ALL

Matthew 16:26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Not long ago I shared with some of you Dr. Roger Martin’s guide to making a good decision: 1st- Decide whether it's Scriptural, 2nd- Decide whether it's Spiritual, 3rd- Decide whether it's Sensible.
Then decide- what you are going to gain, what you are going to lose, and what you are going to keep.

Wise advice. But let us consider but one aspect of this today and that aspect is, what will you lose if you decide to sin? Sin is a losing proposition and it doesn’t matter who you are. You cannot sin and get by with it. It simply cannot be done. Consider if you will:

A: One of the most persistent arguments used by many to "prove" the Bible is true is that women have more ribs than men. This "fact" is glibly repeated over coffee and donuts or innocently recited to children in Sunday School. After all, the Bible does say that woman was made from one of Adam's ribs. And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. (Genesis 2:21-22) These verses tell us how God made the first woman. But would women from that point have more ribs than men? No. If someone accidentally cut off a finger or lost an arm or leg in an accident, would we expect children he had after the loss to be missing a finger, arm, or leg? If a man has an appendix or gall bladder removed, would his children be born without these organs? Of course, no one would even suggest such a thing. However, in the case of Adam and his rib, this unsupportable concept continues to be propagated. Why you should do what you know you ought to do

1. What is the most important thing to ever happen to you? Why, getting saved of course. What is the most important thing you can do for someone else? Why lead them to Christ and see them get saved. Put your priorities in place and share the gospel


2. What is the only thing that is going to truly change the world? Getting people saved of course. "If any man be in Christ he is a new creature". You and I are the only ones who can see people truly changed inside out. The gospel does it. Share it with everyone.


3. What is the first and last thing Jesus told us He would do and we should do? First "Make us fishers of men Matt 4:19" the last, "Preach the gospel to every person". Mk 15:16. Join the Peter club, "At thy word, I will" Lk 5:5. Why do you call me Lord and not do what I told you" Lk 6:46.


4. What brings more joy to you than any earthly thing? "And when he has found the lost sheep, he lays it on his shoulders REJOICING! Lk 15:5.


5. This is fantastic, you bring joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repents" Lk 15:10.


5. How can you bring great joy to your friends and neighbors? "He calls together his friends and neighbors saying, rejoice with me for I have found my sheep which was lost" Lk 15:6


6. What brings more joy to everyone in heaven than anything else. "I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repents more than over ninety nine just persons which need no repentance!" Lk 15:7. WOW


7. What makes the biggest difference than anything else anyone can do. "I was lost", on my way to hell, but now "am found", on my way to heaven. Lk 15:24.

POEM OF THE WEEK - I MET THE MASTER

I had walked life's way with an easy tread;
Had followed where pleasure and comfort led.
Until one day in a quiet place,
I met the Master face-to-face.

With station and rank and wealth for my goal;
Much thought for my body and none for my soul.
I had entered to win in life's mad race,
When I met the Master face-to-face.

I met Him and knew Him and blushed to see,
That His eyes, full of sorrow, were fixed on me.
And I faltered and fell at His feet that day,
While my castles melted and vanished away.

Melted and vanished and in their place,
Naught else did I see but the Master's face.
And I cried aloud "Oh, make me meek,
To follow the steps of Thy wounded feet."

My thoughts are now for the souls of men.
I have lost my life to find it again.

Understanding Ownership

Understanding Ownership   August 11, 2010     "The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein." (Psalm 24:1)     The doctrine of creation is not merely a "scientific" debate. The opposite concepts of natural and evolutionary development versus the fiat creation of an omnipotent, omniscient, and transcendent Being impact every facet of our worldview. God owns the earth; He is its Creator (Genesis 1:1; Psalm 24:1-2; Revelation 4:11; and hundreds of other passages throughout the Bible).     Christians who revere the biblical revelation of God are not to be in conflict with this most basic of all doctrines. God owns the living creatures that inhabit the earth (Psalm 50:10). He owns the metals that establish monetary value in the earth (Haggai 2:8). He claims ownership over our bodies (1 Corinthians 6:19). He even states ownership of our very souls (Ezekiel 18:4). Nothing is excluded from the sphere of His ownership and kingship (1 Chronicles 29:11-12; Isaiah 45:12; Colossians 1:16-17). And we are to manage God's resources as stewards of the Owner.     Lucifer's error was that he thought he could become like the Owner, usurping all the rights and privileges of the Creator (Isaiah 14:12-14). Israel's error was similar; they behaved as if their possessions were their own property (Malachi 3:8-10). The prodigal son claimed for himself the right of ownership and treated the money as if it were his own (Luke 15:12-14). The unfaithful steward made no effort to be productive (Matthew 25:24).     We have been delegated authority over the creation itself (Genesis 1:28), are required to be faithful with the "mysteries of God" (1 Corinthians 4:1-2), and are expected to administer "the manifold grace of God" (1 Peter 4:10). God Uses Tracts, Do You?

God Uses Tracts, Do You? is the title of a tract I wrote 50 years ago. It has been reproduced, copied, modified and published in 10 Christian publications. Here it is:

A sailor told how he was saved while reading a tract thrown to him from a passing car as he was hitch hiking. Alone in her room a girl who was a carhop received Christ after reading a tract left with a tip for her. A tract sent in the mail was used of God to lead a grandmother to the Savior. God uses tracts! Do you?

"Preach the gospel to every creature" (Mark 16:15). Do you? You may not have enough time to witness personally to each person you meet, but you can witness through tracts. Here are some practical pointers on how to pass out tracts. Pass them out:

1. PRAYERFULLY. Of course everything should be done prayerfully. This is especially true when giving out tracts. Pray for the Holy Spirit to speak to hearts and to open the eyes of the recipient's understanding so that he may receive Christ.

2. POLITELY. Never be rude or crude. If our gospel is an offense, that is one matter. But if we are offensive, that is sin. Be very courteous.

3. PLEASANTLY. It costs so little to smile, but a smile goes so far. With love in your heart and a smile on your face, ask kindly, "May I give you something special to read?" If a person refuses or wants to argue, remain pleasant. Don't argue.

4. PLENTIFULLY. "Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully" (2 Cor. 9:6). Tracts cost so little that you can afford to give them freely. Certainly some people will throw them away. Many turn off the radio, yet we still broadcast the gospel. Many see little fruit because they give out so little.

5. PERSISTENTLY. "Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary" (Gal. 6:9). Let's walk by faith and not by sight. Many have seen great results because they keep at it.


6. PRACTICALLY. Don't expect God to stop you suddenly on the street and say, "Here, give this man a tract" or "Wait, don't give him one." Would you even have a tract with you if He did? God expects us to be practical and buy up our opportunities. We don't wait for the Spirit to move us before we pray or read our Bible. Neither should we wait for a feeling to give out tracts.

Put tracts in letters, Christmas cards, and bills. Give them to clerks, waitresses, salesmen; and all who come to your door. Leave them in places where people will likely see them and pick them up. Go in teams for mass distribution to bus and train stations, airports, shopping centers, and sporting arenas. Send teams from the church, door to door, until you reach every home.

Doctors have put them in statements, businessmen in letters, and store owners in packages. Tract racks maybe profitably placed in stores, stations, hospitals, etc. Be sure the tracts are attractive and printed on good paper. Don't cheapen your witness. Watch and pray for some new way to distribute tracts.

7. PERSONALLY. One of the unique aspects of tracts is that anyone can use them, young or old, educated or uneducated, rich or poor. People who would not come to your church will read a tract in privacy. Be sure it contains the gospel -- the death, burial and resurrection of Christ for our sins!

8. PROSPECTIVELY. One of the greatest values of tract is their ease in opening the door to witness. Use them as a tool to witness but never as an excuse for not witnessing. After a person has read the tract try to engage him in conversation, and witness further to him.

9. PRESENTLY. Don't delay; start today. Remember you can never be led to give out a tract if you have none with you. Again, be like Peter, "I will do as you say" Lk 5:5. Try to get the gospel to EVERY person without being pushy or offensive.

10. PURPOSEFULLY. Stamp your address on the back of the tract for a follow-up.

Let's preach the gospel to every creature we meet through the use of tracts.

Haven't they found evidence of giants in Greece? These stories have made the rounds on the Internet in recent years, and frequently those curious (or excited) about these supposed fossil finds have contacted us about them. After all, the Bible does say that "There were giants in the earth in those days" (Genesis 6:4) and "there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants" (Numbers 13:33). Why should we not be excited about these discoveries that once again "prove the Bible is true"? Well, mainly because these reports are false. Basically, what is reported is that a gas company in Saudi Arabia or a group of archaeologists in Greece have uncovered the remains of giants. The reports are illustrated with photos of a dig site containing very large human skeletons. At first glance, these photographs look convincing. Then, without looking further into the matter, well-meaning people begin to use this as "proof" that the biblical text in Genesis and/or Numbers is true. However, the photographs in question are faked. They are the product of a competition for digital photographers who were trying to create an archaeological hoax. This innocent competition's photos were then used as the basis for a very widespread Internet hoax.
