The Power of a Single
Verse
Adapted from Evangelist Fred Brown by Pastor Rick Jackson
I. THE SIMPLICITY
OF THE TEXT - “Look”
1. Any Simpleton can do that [Psalm 119:130 The entrance of thy words giveth
light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.]
2. The Old Testament Example [Num. 21, “the appearance of a
serpent”]
3. The New Testament Application [John 3:14ff, “the
appearance of a sinner”]
II. THE SOURCE OF THE TEXT – “Look unto Me” [v. 22,
21; Titus 2:10-13]
1. Not to Self [Titus 3:5] Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but
according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and
renewing of the Holy Ghost;”
2. Not to Religion [Ps. 51: 16-17] For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it:
thou delightest not in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken
spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
3. Not to Others [Acts 4:12] Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none
other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
III. THE SUBJECT OF
THE TEXT – “Be ye saved”
1. From Damnation [Mark 16:16] He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that
believeth not shall be damned.
2. From the Wrath of God [Romans 5:9] Much more then, being now justified by
his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
3. To Be with God Forever [Revelation 21:24] And the nations of them which are saved
shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory
and honour into it.
IV. THE SCOPE OF THE
TEXT – “all the ends of the earth” [Jn. 3:16, Acts 17:2]
