LIFE IN THE PRESENCE OF DEATH

JOSHUA 1

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. FACE THE FACTS [v. 1-4]

1. Death is No Respecter of Persons [v. 1, Romans 5:12]

Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

2. Death is No Restrainer of God’s Plan [v. 2, Acts 2:24]

Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.

3. Death is No Revoker of God’s Promises [v. 3-4, 2 Peter 3:13]

Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
1 John 2:25 And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.

II. HAVE FAITH IN GOD [v. 5-8]

Mark 11:22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.

1. Faith in God’s Presence [v. 5, Hebrews 13:5]

Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor ° forsake thee.

2. Faith in God’s Purpose [v. 6, Romans 8:28]

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Ephesians 1:11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:
Ephesians 3:11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:
2 Timothy 1:9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began .

3. Faith in God’s Principles [v. 7-8, Hebrews 5:12]
For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
Hebrews 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,

III. PUT FEET TO YOUR FAITH [v. 9]

1. Be Strong [v. 9, 10:25, 17:13]

2. Be Courageous [v. 9, 18 - the courage of your convictions]

3. Be Not Dismayed [v. 9, Joshua 8:1]

And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear not, neither be thou dismayed: take all the people of war with thee, and arise, go up to Ai: see, I have given into thy hand the king of Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land:
Joshua 10:25 And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage: for thus shall the LORD do to all your enemies against whom ye fight.
1 Samuel 2:10 The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.
1 Samuel 17:11 When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.
