SPIRITUAL GIFTS

EPHESIANS 4:7

This is one of those cases where I had planned on going in one direction but the Lord had other plans. I was concerned with a popular, but mistaken interpretation, while the Lord was concerned with another area. Lord willing, this is what He intends for us to look at this evening.

There is no one place in the Scriptures that lists every gift nor every instruction concerning gifts. But there are several main passages and main truths concerning them. The passages include Eph. 4:7-16, Romans 12:1-16, and I Corinthians 12-14. The truths taught are spread around but several are repeated for emphasis.

1. Every Christian has several gifts.

2. All gifts given are to serve God.

3. All gifts are given to help the body [the church] NOT for personal edification.

4. No one gift is for all people.

5. No one person has all the gifts.

6. The gifts are given by God’s grace.

7. The gifts are given according to God’s will.

8. Gifts should cause humility not pride.

9. Gifts should be exercised properly.

10. Gifts should not cause disorder.
