QUESTION OF THE WEEK: How difficult is it to make a protein?

Q: How difficult is it to make a protein?

A: Cells are made up of thousands of components. One of these components is protein. Proteins are large molecules made up of a chain of amino acids. In order to get a protein useful for life, the correct amino acids must be linked together in the right order.
How easy is this and does it happen naturally? It turns out that this is not an easy process. There are large hurdles that evolutionary processes must overcome in order to build a biological protein.
Protein molecules contain very specific arrangements of amino acids. Even one missing or incorrect amino acid can lead to problems with the protein's function.

QUOTES OF THE WEEK

Never let good books take the place of the Bible.  Drink from the Well, not from the streams that flow from the Well.  --  Amy Carmichael

Is the Bible the Word of God? Then let us all resolve from this day forward to prize the Bible more. -- J.C. Ryle

The Bible is my oxygen . . . . How could I live a single day in this world of illusion without God's inerrant Word?  -- Ray Ortlund

Trust is the lesson. Jesus loves me, this I know--not because he does just what I'd like, but because the Bible tells me so.  -- Elisabeth Elliot

Our Bible was the center of an ever-widening circle of help and hope. Like waifs clustered around a blazing fire, we gathered about it, holding out our hearts to its warmth and light. -- Corrie ten Boom

The Bible grows more beautiful, as we grow in our understanding of it. -- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

It is the distinction of great men of God that they prayed. It is the distinction of our God that He answers prayer. Answered prayer binds together the true God and His true believers in the minds of people of the whole world. - John R. Rice

The primary purpose of reading the Bible is not to know the Bible but to know God. -- James Merritt

Most of the verses written about praise in God's Word were voiced by people faced with crushing heartaches, injustice, treachery, slander, and scores of other difficult situations. -- Joni Erickson Tada

The Word of God is a great deep. The commandment is exceeding broad. And so we cannot by merely occasional, hurried and perfunctory use of it understand its meaning and power.  -- John Murray

God has placed all that you need to know about Him between the covers of the Bible.  But only you can open its pages to discover what He is saying to you. -- unknown

Judging Others

Judging Others
"Judge not, that ye be not judged." (Matthew 7:1)

This is a very familiar maxim, often cited by unbelievers and carnal Christians as a rebuke to Christians whom they regard as intolerant. These words of the Lord Jesus Christ do, indeed, warn us against a self-righteous attitude, condemning others who disagree with us on the basis of superficial criteria.

On the other hand, this caution by no means relieves us of the responsibility of evaluating the beliefs and practices of others in the light of Scripture. In the very same sermon, in fact, Jesus said just a few moments later: "Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine"; and, "beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing" (Matthew 7:6-15). Obedience to such commandments obviously requires one to make a judgment as to whether certain unbelievers should be regarded as "dogs" or "swine," to whom it would be counterproductive to try to speak of spiritual matters, or whether certain professing Christian leaders are actually false prophets who should be repudiated. Jesus also said: "Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment" (John 7:24).

Since the Scriptures themselves are to be used in the final judgment (John 12:48; Revelation 20:12; etc.), it is obvious that we should use them right now to discern truth and error, right and wrong. "For the word of God . . . is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart" (Hebrews 4:12).

There is another basis of judgment that the Lord Jesus has authorized us to use. "A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. . . . Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them" (Matthew 7:18-20). Thus, the test of Scripture plus fruit produced can serve as the basis of a valid judgment. Until adequate data for making such a test are available, judge not! HMM

We Make Time for Our Priorities

Bill Rice Ranch - First Light Devotionals
Haggai 1:2 Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that the LORD's house should be built.

Chances are good that you are skimming this. We have become masters of skim reading and skim living. We have very little time, and by every observable indication we seem to be very mindful of our time. Yet, we don't seem to have time for the most important things. Our bodies wear out, our spirits break down, our families tear apart. The reason, oftentimes, is because we're spending time on things that may be good, but not important. It has always been true of the human condition that people make time for their priorities.

Haggai was God's choice to God's people after the Babylonian exile. By God's command, they had begun rebuilding the temple, but because of man's opposition they stopped. Yet, while the opposition stopped them from building God's house, it did not keep them from building beautiful homes for themselves. It's interesting to note that there was no opposition for them to build their own houses. There was only opposition against building God's house.

So what did God say to these people? In Haggai 1:2 Haggai says, "Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that the Lord's house should be built." They weren't against building God's house: they just didn't think this was the time. It seems as if there's no perfect time for the most important things. In verse 4 God says, "Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses and this house lie waste?... Consider your ways." God is reminding us just as certainly as He was reminding His people of old that you spend time on whatever you value.

The question of value is a "who," "what," and "when" question.

Who would they invest their time, effort, and money for? The Lord or self?

What would they spend their time, effort, and money on? The Lord's house or their own?

When would they build God's house? Ironically, it wasn't time to build God's house, but they somehow found time for their own houses.

Now to whom are you giving your time and for what purpose? What are you investing in? First of all, have you trusted Christ? Have you made time for your soul? What about God's Word? Are you spending time with your family? Time is one of the most precious commodities that God gives, and He can give you the guidance to use it wisely if you're willing to accept it. Let's spend our time wisely because we spend our time on whatever we value.

                                                                                                                                                            Pastor Rick Jackson

Of all the men that God used to write the Scriptures [about 40 in all] none give us the reason for writing as often as John the Beloved.

John 20:30-31 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

1 JOHN 1:4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.

And, as we shall see, many more times in this little epistle.

I. JOHN WRITES- THAT YOU SIN NOT

1. We Have an Advocate [v. 1-2]

2. We Have an Assurance [v. 3-5]

3. We Have an Assignment [v. 6]

II. JOHN WRITES- TO REMIND YOU

1. Of Your Responsibility [v. 7-11]

2. Of Your Redemption [v. 12-14]

3. Of Your Reality [v. 15-19]

III. JOHN WRITES- TO WARN YOU

1. About Deniers [v. 20-23]

2. About Seducers [v. 24-26] just as Solomon warned of those who would seduce you physically…

3. To Abide [v. 27-29]

QUESTION OF THE WEEK: Why do we insist on a young earth?

Q: Why do we insist on a young earth?

A: Of course, the reason for insisting on a young earth is because biblical authors took Genesis as literal history and an eyewitness account provided and guaranteed accurate by the Creator Himself. Jesus also took Genesis as literal history. So, the outcome of letting Scripture interpret Scripture is a young earth and universe.
The Hebrew language and context used in Genesis 1 can only mean literal (24 hour) days. Furthermore, as history, the genealogies in Genesis 5 and 11 provide an accurate chronology, so that from the creation of the first man, Adam, to the present day is only about 6,000 years. Since the earth was only created five literal days before Adam, then on the authority of God's Word, the earth is only about 6,000 years old.
