Q: Did Jesus fake His own death?

A: In his popular book, The Passover Plot, radical New Testament scholar Hugh J. Schonfield proposed that Jesus set out to fulfill the Old Testament's messianic prophecies. According to Schonfield's theory, Jesus enlisted the aid of men like Joseph of Arimathea and Lazarus of Bethany to help Him accomplish an elaborate hoax. Joseph arranged for an unidentified person to give Jesus a drink on the Cross that would cause Him to lose consciousness and appear to be dead. However, no one involved in the scheme anticipated the spear wound, which gravely injured Jesus. He was removed from the tomb the next day, briefly regaining consciousness before dying and being reburied elsewhere.
This idea requires that Jesus not only survived the Crucifixion somehow, but He also must have recovered, at least for a long enough time to make a few appearances, from the brutal torture leading up to the Crucifixion and from the Crucifixion itself.
Ingenious conspiracy theories often convince those who are ignorant of history, particularly of the details of flogging and crucifixion. But simply put, the Romans were experts at executing people, and to think that someone could survive the horrors Jesus endured displays either the critics' willful ignorance or their desperate attempt to deny the obvious.
Continue reading to discover how the crucifixion of Jesus utterly demolishes the swoon theory and Passover plot ideas.

Just Do It

Bill Rice Ranch - First Light Devotionals
Exodus 36:1  "Then wrought Bezaleel and Aholiab, and every wise hearted man, in whom the LORD put wisdom and understanding to know how to work all manner of work for the service of the sanctuary, according to all that the LORD had commanded."

When you do what you should do for the day, you will have what you need for the day.  God's plan is much bigger than your capacity to know it!  God is a God of detail, and He knows the "big picture."

I am sure that Bezaleel did not know every detail of the work God had for him.  Exodus 36:1-2 says of him, "Then wrought Bezaleel . . . the work to do it."  There came a time to get the work done!  They needed to "just do it."

God's plan is far bigger than your part, but it includes your part.  You may not know exactly how your part fits in to His plan, but that does not make your part unimportant.  Someone had to give the goats' hair in order that someone else could make curtains with it.  When we are listening to and following God, there is confidence in the plan and provision God has!

I don't know what your part is in God's plan, but I do know that if you do what you should, you will have what you need.  When you take the step you should take now, God will reveal the step you should take tomorrow.  The Master has a master plan, and your partnership in His plan is important.  Most of your questions are probably about details, but when God has clearly given you a part-in the words of a famous shoe maker-just do it!

I Come Quickly

I Come Quickly
"He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus." (Revelation 22:20)

This is the next-to-the-last verse in the Bible, and it contains the last promise in the Bible. The final promise of the Lord is that He would come back to earth again "quickly," but it has been almost 2,000 years since He made the promise, and He hasn't come yet. Evidently, the word "quickly." as He used it, did not mean "immediately."

As a matter-of-fact, this promise appears no less than six times here in Revelation (Revelation 2:5, 16; 3:11; 22:7, 12, 20). The first three are in Christ's messages to the churches at Ephesus, Pergamos, and Philadelphia, respectively. The last three are in His final message to all churches (Revelation 22:16).

The Lord Jesus has not forgotten His promise for "all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us" (2 Corinthians 1:20). Furthermore, many spiritual believers in every previous generation have been looking for His coming "quickly," as He promised, yet they all have died before its fulfillment.

It seems evident that "quickly" must be understood in the sense of "suddenly." It may well be "in such an hour as ye think not" (Matthew 24:44), and it will occur "in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye" (1 Corinthians 15:52), when it happens. It does seem that all the signs of the nearness of His sudden coming are being fulfilled today, except perhaps one. "And the gospel must first be published among all nations" (Mark 13:10), "for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come" (Matthew 24:14).

Even this is now being done, it seems. In any case, it is vitally important that we "abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we . . . not be ashamed before him at his coming" (1 John 2:28). "Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!" HMM

QUOTES OF THE WEEK

I'm not ashamed of my wheelchair nor the paralysis that put me in it. I don't serve them, they serve me through the will of the Sovereign. And one day, their service will no longer be necessary. No victim here. That's resurrection truth. - Scott Mitchell

No trial would cause us to despair if we knew God's reason for allowing it to happen. - J. R. Faulkner

A church is not an orderly arrangement of bricks; it's a collection of blood-bought sinners who have submitted themselves to God's Spirit so that He can fully transform them. - Kyle Sutton [IBJM representative]

Wood, hay, and straw can be picked up on the surface, but if you want gold, silver, and jewels, you have to dig for them. We don't build the local church on clever human ideas or by imitating the world; we build by teaching and obeying the precious truths of the Word of God. - Warren Wiersbe

I believe "global warming" is impossible because Jesus Christ created the heavens, the earth and all that is in them, Colossians 1:16, and He holds it all together, Colossians 1:17.
God is in charge and nothing can happen to this "earth" unless He allows it to. No act of man can overrule God's plan. However, as our text [Revelation 8:1-13] tells us, there will be "ecological judgments" upon the earth during the time of the seven year Tribulation Period in the future. - Jimmy DeYoung

My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government. - Thomas Jefferson

Question of the Week - Does placental death violate "no death before sin"?

Q: Does placental death violate "no death before sin"?

A: Based on biblical history, there was no animal or human death before sin. Dr. Terry Mortenson has written an extensive article covering the biblical rationale for this belief and showing its relationship to the issue of the age of the earth.
As he explains, the Curse upon creation after Adam sinned brought death to all "living creatures" (Hebrew nephesh chayyah), a designation for people, animals, birds, and sea creatures. This curse did not apply to plants, as plants are not considered to be living beings (nowhere called nephesh in Scripture). Furthermore, according to Genesis 1:29–30, many plants were designed to be eaten.
A placenta is not a living creature. Its cells are designed to serve, and when their service is completed, they are simply disposed of. There is no living being or living thing—no nephesh—to die in the process.
Continue reading to learn more about the placenta's essential but temporary function for life.
