I. THE SPIRIT OF GOD

1. The Presence of God [3:24-4:1]

2. The Profession of Christ as God [2:23, 4:2-3, 15; 2 Jn. 7]

3. The Protection of God

-by the Spirit’s Indwelling [4:4, 1 Cor. 6:19]

What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

-by the Spirit’s Inspiration [4:5-6, 2 Peter 1:21]

For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

 

II. THE LOVE OF GOD

1. Manifested in His Saviour [1 Jn. 4:9]

2. Motivated Him [1 Jn. 4:10, John 3:16]

3. Motivates Us [1 Jn. 4:14, 2 Corinthians 5:14]

For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:

 

III. THE LOVE OF GOD AND THE SPIRIT OF GOD

1. Our Means to Love the Brethren [4:7-8]

2. A Means to Know We Know [4:11-13]

3. A Motivation to Be Evangelistic [4:14-17]
